Starbucks always believed that businesses can – and should – have a positive impact on the communities they serve. Since the opening of our first store in Malaysia in 1998, we strived on being a responsible company, one that dedicate ourselves to earning the trust and respect of our customers, partners (employees) and neighbors by doing things that are good for the planet and each other. We are committed to supporting programs that address our environmental footprint.

In conjunction with Earth Hour, Starbucks Malaysia is raising awareness about climate change by rallying to log 20,000 pledges amongst partners, customers and the community. Pledgers are to switch off non-essential lights for 1 hour from 8.30pm-9.30pm. The pledge platform is activated through Starbucks Malaysia’s Facebook Page until 25 March.

With that, Starbucks Malaysia will be turning off a portion of its lights throughout its 236 stores from 8.30pm to 9.30pm during Earth Hour. Mr. Sydney Quays, Managing Director of Starbucks Malaysia and Brunei said, “We first joined this lights – off movement back in 2008 during the symbolic hour and we will continue to observe this practice. Commitment to environmental conservation is an important part of Starbucks’ social responsibilities and is reflected in every aspect of our business.”

“We believe in not only giving, but sharing the good we do, as it is our commitment to contribute back to the community,” added Mr. Sydney. Starbucks is rewarding pledgers who show up during Earth Hour and present their digital pledge to the Baristas at selected Starbucks locations with limited edition Starbucks Malaysia 18th Anniversary Tote bag while stocks last.

Additionally, for one hour only, customers will get to enjoy any tall handcrafted beverage for only RM10 on Saturday (25 March) from 8.30pm – 9.30pm provided they bring their own Starbucks tumbler.

So join in the Earth Hour movement with Starbucks by making your digital pledge now to enlarge your environmental footprint by one person, one pledge, one neighborhood at a time. For more information, visit Starbucks Malaysia’s facebook at fb.com/StarbucksMalaysia .
