DIVA, the premier women’s entertainment destination from NBCUniversal International Networks, today announced the launch of The Next Miss Universe Malaysia 2017. The exciting new reality series will consist of 6 x 30-minute episodes beginning every Wednesday from 18 January, at 8:55PM. This will be followed by a grand finale and the crowning of Miss Universe Malaysia 2017, which will then be aired as a one-hour special on 15 March, Wednesday at 7PM.

From the grueling auditions and challenges to the glamorous grand finale, the series will follow the journey of 18 young women vying for the once-in-a-lifetime chance of becoming Miss Universe Malaysia 2017. The woman crowned Miss Universe Malaysia will then be the country’s representative, amongst international contestants, at the 2017 Miss Universe pageant, kicking off later this year. Additionally, she will also receive a cash prize of MYR50,000 (US$11,150) and fabulous prizes worth over MYR150,000 (US$33,450).

“As a network that celebrates women, DIVA is delighted to be the Official TV Channel of The Next Miss Universe Malaysia 2017,” said Scott Mackenzie, Vice President, Channels, Asia, NBCUniversal International Networks. “Beauty pageants are highly popular in Asia and the series has all the makings of great television: cutthroat competition, smart and beautiful women, and the ultimate prize of representing Malaysia in Miss Universe 2017.”

Elaine Daly – Miss Malaysia Universe 2003 and National Director of the Miss Universe Malaysia Organization (MUMO)– will serve on the panel of resident judges, alongside actor/director/producer Dato’ Hans Isaac and actress/producer Debbie Goh. Further, many of Malaysia’s leading style experts are also on hand to offer their expertise as guest judges including: Wan Mohd Ruzaini Wan Jamil and Rizman Nordin (fashion designers of the homegrown label Rizman Ruzaini), Iqbab V Azwan Mukhtaram (fashion editor, InTrend magazine), Aizat Aidid (fashion editor, Glam magazine), Nur Fazura (actress and TV personality) and Simon Chin (celebrity photographer).

In the series, the 18 finalists will go through an intensive training session, receiving a crash course in beauty pageant-related activities such as catwalk lessons, grooming and fitness. Following a glamorous hair makeover by industry experts, the girls put their knowledge to the test and pose for a series of photo shoot challenges. They also have the opportunity to speak with key industry leaders in a unique one-on-one mingling session.
