Malaysian Talent Turns Out in Force for the AXN Asia’s Got Talent Open Auditions at Sunway City, Kuala Lumpur

It was the ultimate gathering of Malaysia’s performing arts community today as AXN held the Asia’s Got Talent open auditions in search of the next regional superstar.

Hundreds of aspiring hopefuls filled the Sunway Lagoon Amphitheatre at Sunway City, Kuala Lumpur, for their chance to perform in front of AXN’s executive producers. Due to the overwhelming response, the dazzling display of Malaysian talent did not end until well into the evening.

“Today’s open auditions proved that Malaysians are super talented and we’ve been so thrilled with the quality and diversity of acts on display. I would like to thank our official destination partner, Sunway City, Kuala Lumpur, for hosting the open auditions and for supporting AXN in amplifying Malaysian talent to the world,” said Virginia Lim, Senior Vice President and Head of Content, Production and Marketing, Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia.

Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group, Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah AO, said, “We are excited to be the official destination partner and host of the Asia’s Got Talent Open Auditions. Billed as the biggest talent competition in the world, Asia’s Got Talent welcomed individual and group acts of all ages and all talents, who took to the stage with dreams of making it through to the next round and ultimately winning USD$100,000 in cash.

Amongst those queuing to audition, were some amazing acts including a choir comprising 38 medical students, a 49 year old belly dancer, an opera singer, three diabolo performers, a four year old girl who can rap and dance, and a Michael Jackson impersonator who started queuing at 7am; as well as countless vocalists, dancers and cultural performances from all over Malaysia.

New Ratings Records in Asia

Season one of Asia’s Got Talent set new ratings records for the English general entertainment (GE) genre during its run, taking AXN to the number one spot in its timeslot among all regional pay-TV channels collectively across Southeast Asia and Taiwan.2

In Malaysia, Asia’s Got Talent was the highest rated entertainment series on English language channels on Astro in the past two years.
