IKEA presents new living room focus to inspire people to make room for what’s important in life

IKEA today officially introduced the 2018 IKEA Catalogue in Malaysia with a fresh spin on the living room. Themed ‘Make Room for Life’, the Catalogue highlights new ways of living in the living room to help customers create more out of their space. With this year’s Catalogue, IKEA is asking Malaysians to reclaim their space for friends, celebrations, play and nature – four pillars that are essential for a better life at home.

“In the 2018 IKEA Catalogue, we want to inspire Malaysians to look beyond the constraints of space and make room for the important things in their lives. We understand that the way people meet, socialise and live has changed – especially in the living room. Hence, our well-designed, affordable and sustainable solutions not only cater to their functional needs but also their emotional well-being,” said Gerard Jansen, speaking on behalf of IKEA Malaysia at the launch.

The world’s urban population is steadily growing. According to the United Nations (UN), 66% of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050. This trend can be seen in Malaysia as well, with the Government of Malaysia forecasting that 75% of the population will live in cities by 2020. Besides that, technology has impacted almost every facet of life, altering the way people socialize, work and even rest. Together, urbanization and technology have changed life at home; though many homes have not yet adapted to a new way of living.

Jansen commented that IKEA is in a position to provide solutions and inspire people to rise to the challenges of modern living so that they can have a better life at home.

He added, “Our focus on the living room is not coincidental; this room is the heart of everyday activities and fulfills the most basic of human needs of self-expression and belonging.

The modern living room is multifunctional and therefore has unlimited possibilities depending on day, time and situation.”

That’s why the new IKEA catalogue is full of tips and know-how that make it easier than ever to create the home of your dreams.

The IKEA Catalogue app is available for download from the Apple Store and Google Play Store.

Designer Collaborations

IKEA will be offering the YPPERLIG collection (pic.), a collaboration with Danish design company HAY. The collaboration present strong Scandinavian values and identity combined with the latest production techniques.

In another collaboration, IKEA explores a fresh take on seating and sleeping with British designer Tom Dixon. The DELAKTIG collection draws inspiration from the tech industry, such as a sofa with an aluminum frame that can be ‘hacked’ to change its function.

Even Lower Price (ELP)

At IKEA, the more we sell, the more we can sell for less. By making products people like, we’re able to sell more of it. And by selling more of it, we can improve production processes to make IKEA products even more affordable than before.

This year, IKEA is introducing new products such as the GLADOM tray table to its existing list of ELP products; another multifunctional solution that fits into any home.

IKEA Food

IKEA offers healthy, sustainable and delicious dishes that are affordable. From now until February 2018, IKEA Restaurants is serving Salmon Fillet with vegetable medallions, mixed vegetables and chive sauce (pic.). More tasty dishes will be introduced through the year so that people can enjoy food that tastes good and is good for them.

From now to 17 September, the new IKEA 2018 Catalogue will be distributed to all homes in the Klang Valley. Customers who have not received their copy can get theirs at the IKEA Damansara or IKEA Cheras stores from 18 September onwards. The digital version of the IKEA Catalogue is also made available online at IKEA.my/catalogue and via the IKEA Catalogue App.
